Join the Lab

I am always on the lookout for excellent students and postdocs to join the lab!

You are in the right place if you are passionate about questions in evolutionary ecology that apply to biodiversity conservation. Most lab members have had background training in ecology and evolutionary biology and molecular ecology. Interested prospective PhD students or postdocs should first send me their CV and a brief description of your research interests and background, career goals, and why you are interested in joining the Fitzpatrick Lab. Here is some additional information:

Graduate students

Graduate students in my lab receive a dual degree from the Department of Integrative Biology (IBIO) and the EEB Graduate Program. The deadline for applying to IBIO is December 1st. Graduate support is available in the form of Teaching Assistantships, Research Assistantships, and various other fellowships. Graduate students in my lab develop their own research questions and study systems within the broad areas of conservation genomics, evolutionary ecology, demography, and animal behavior.

Here is a very useful link to Sarah Evans’ tips on writing an email of interest to potential advisors.

Postdocs

I encourage prospective postdocs to email me to discuss research ideas and potential funding opportunities. I am always happy to help prospective postdocs develop and apply for postdoctoral fellowships, including NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology, MSU Presidential Postdoc Fellowship in EEB, Smith Conservation Research Fellowship, Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, or others.

Undergraduate students

KBS is a fantastic place to gain an undergraduate research experience! There are opportunities for MSU students as well as students from other universities. Check out the KBS website for opportunities.
